George Earnshaw was the third son of Thomas Earnshaw and Elizabeth Crosby born at Dawdon Hall & christened February 6th, 1830 at St Andrew's, Dalton-le-Dale, Co. Durham.
In 1841 George was living with his parents at Dawdon Hall.
In 1851 he was a railway labourer living at home in William St, Dawdon.
He was still living at home in 1861 when he was a parish clerk.
In 1881 George was unmarried and living at Ocean Rd, Ryhope. He was a railway signalman.
By 1901 George (70) had returned to Dawdon – to 28 William St where
he had grown up! He was a railway clerk and sharing the house was the Lumsden
family from Scotland.
