Robert Richardson Earnshaw [e.1.6.3]

Robert Richardson Earnshaw was the third child of Robert Earnshaw and Ann Richardson born Oct-December 1873 at Seaham, Co. Durham.

Robert lived at home at Seaham Park, Seaham in 1881 but by 1891 the family had moved to Grange Terrace, Ryhope and Robert was working at the paper mill.

In 1901 Robert was still living at home, now Stockton Terrace, Ryhope, and he was a beater in the paper mill.

He married Janet Colling (born July-Sept 1874, South Shields) in 1902 in Sunderland and they had 3 children. At the time of the birth of their second child, Frederick, they were living at 3 Ocean Rd, Grangetown. Their first child, Charlotte, died aged 4, but their 2 sons, Frederick and Stanley survived. Fred worked at the paper mill and Stanley qualified as an electrician.

Robert, Janet & son Frederick came to live at 9 Oxford St, Grangetown by 1911, which was adjacent to Leechmere Rd, Grangetown where several of his brothers lived. Robert was a papermaker's labourer at this time.

Robert lived at 9 Oxford St until his death, & according to Ward’s directory of Sunderland he was a papermaker throughout this time.

Robert died June 8th, 1934, aged 60 and is buried at St Aidans cemetery, Grangetown.

Janet continued to live at 9 Oxford St, until at least 1945 with her son Frederick.

Janet died February 10th, 1957, aged 82 & was buried alongside husband Robert & daughter Charlotte.
