Sarah Ellis was the second child of William Ellis & Mary Allsop christened November 14th, 1809 at Tibshelf, Derbyshire.
Sarah married Jeremiah Hardy on July 26th, 1830 at Pinxton, Derbyshire. Jeremiah was born September 2nd, 1808 at Morton, Derbyshire, the son of Elizabeth Hardy. A witness at the wedding was Isaac Keeling who was to marry Sarah's sister Ann.
Sarah & Jeremiah had 3 children before Sarah’s death in 1837. Sarah was buried on March 17 th , 1837 at St Helen, Pinxton.

Jeremiah remarried on March 4th, 1839, in Alfreton, his second wife being Rebecca Limb, who was born in Riddings, Derbyshire in 1812, the daughter of John Limb, a shoemaker. The marriage certificate states that Jeremiah's father was Thomas Morley, a labourer.
At the time of the 1841 census Sarah & Jeremiah’s son William (10) was with his grandparents William & Mary Ellis at Pinxton Wharf. Living nearby were Jeremiah & Rebecca with Sarah & Jeremiah’s 7 year old daughter, Ann & a child of their own marriage, Elizabeth (1).
In 1851 the surviving children of Jeremiah’s first marriage were both with their widowed grandfather William Ellis & their uncle Joab at Pinxton Wharf. A few houses away was Jeremiah with wife Rebecca & their children Elizabeth, John, Jane, George & Rebecca. Jeremiah was a coal miner.
Jeremiah & Rebecca were still at Pinxton Wharf in 1861 with children John, George, both coal miners, Rebecca, Jeremiah & Henry.
Jeremiah, aged 59, died in 1866, & was buried on April 15th 1866, at St Helen’s, Pinxton.
In 1871 widow Rebecca was living at 14 Meadow Row, Pinxton, with sons Jeremiah & Henry, both coal miners & grandson Jeremiah Hardy (6) & granddaughter Mary A Lenton (3). Boarding with the family were Joseph Lenton (30) & Thomas Gregory (19), both coal miners.
Rebecca was still at Meadow Row in 1881 with only son Henry at home. Joseph Lenton was still lodging with them.
Rebecca died in April-June 1885, the death being registered at Mansfield.
