Richard Ellis was the fifth child of William Ellis & Mary Allsop christened November 6th, 1816 at Pinxton, Derbyshire.
Richard married Ann Allcock in Oct-December 1840 at Pinxton. Ann was christened April 22nd, 1821 at Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, the daughter of Mary & Harvey Allcock.
In 1841 Richard & Ann were living at Pinxton Wharf, Pinxton & Richard was a coal miner.
They were still at Pinxton Wharf in 1851 & now had a 6 year old daughter Ann. Lodging with them was Ann’s brother William Allcock & his wife Rebecca & daughter Elizabeth.
By 1861 Richard & Ann had moved to Speedwell Cottages, Staveley, Derbyshire & daughter Ann was still at home. Richard was still a coal miner.
In 1871 Richard & Ann were living at 12 Grassmoor, Chesterfield & Hasland, Derbyshire & Ann was now a dressmaker. Living at the same address was daughter Ann now married to George Gee, a coal miner, with their son Richard Gee (3).
Richard & Ann were at New St, Grassmoor, Chesterfield in 1881 & with them was grandson Richard (listed as Ellis) (13) who was a coal miner like Richard. This was probably the son of daughter Ann.
Richard died in Jan-March 1886, aged 70, the death being registered at Chesterfield.
In 1891 widowed Ann was described as a shopkeeper & was still living at New St, Grassmoor. Living next door was daughter Ann & son-in-law George & their 6 children.
Ann died in July-September 1894, aged 73, the death being registered at Chesterfield.
