Job Ellis was the eighth child of William Ellis & Mary Allsop christened October 17th, 1824 at Pinxton, Derbyshire.
In 1841 Job was an apprentice shoe maker to William Bollington & living with him at Foundery Row, Alfreton, Derbyshire.
On August 24th, 1847 Job married Mary Streets at Staveley, Derbyshire. Mary was the daughter of Robert Streets.
Sadly 19 year old Mary died in 1848 at Canal Houses, Pinxton & was buried on October 3rd, 1848 at St Helen’s, Pinxton.
Job married again on November 23rd, 1849 at St Helen’s, Pinxton. His second wife was Ann Bryan born c1829 in Nottinghamshire, the daughter of Jonathan Bryan, labourer. Job of Meadow Row was 24 years old & widowed & Ann, a spinster, of Pinxton was 20 at the time of marriage. Witnesses at the wedding were Ann Ellis & Matthew Lee.
In 1851 Job & Ann were living at Pinxton Wharf with Job’s widowed father, William. Job was now a coal miner & he & Ann had a 5 month old son Thomas. Also with them at the time of the census were the children of Job’s deceased sister, Sarah Hardy.
Tragically Job’s second wife Ann also died very young. She was buried on December 12th, 1852 at Pinxton, aged 22 years.

By 1861 Job & family had moved to Skegby, Notts & Job had returned to being a cordwainer (shoemaker). As well as son Thomas (10) children & daughter Emma (9), from his second marriage he & Louisa had children James (7), Mary (4), Richard (2) & William (1 month).
Job & Louisa were living at 97 Forest St, Sutton in Ashfield, Notts in 1871. Both Job & son James were cordwainers. Children Mary & Richard were still at home.
In 1881 Job & Louisa were living at 33 Festus St, Nottingham St Mary & Job & son Richard were described as book makers – however this probably was boot makers! They had a 15 year old servant Elizabeth Pratt.
By 1891 Job was widowed & had moved to Brownin Terrace, Portland St, Arnold, Notts & was now described as a boot & shoe maker. With him was daughter-in-law Eliza Ellis (27) & 2 grandchildren Albert (3?) born in Nottingham & Nellie (5) born in New York, USA. Son Richard had married Eliza Smith on April 10th, 1882 at Sneinton, Notts. There is a record of Eliza Ellis sailing from Liverpool to New York on May 9th, 1891 with children Albert, 11 months, & Nellie, aged 4 years. The whereabouts of Richard at this time are unknown.
Job died in 1896, the death being registered at Basford.
