William Ellis was the fifth child of John Ellis & Ellen (Helen) Wright christened June 17th, 1782 at Tibshelf, Derbyshire, the same day as brother John.
William married Mary Allsop on July 4th, 1803 at Tibshelf. Mary was born c1786 at Tibshelf, Derbyshire.
In 1841 William & Mary were living at Pinxton Wharf, Pinxton & William’s occupation was given as a coke burner. Their son George was still at home & working as a coal miner. Also living with them was Sarah Cettle, aged 80, & William Hardy, their grandson – the son of daughter Sarah who had died a few years earlier. William Hardy’s father, Jeremiah, was living nearby with his second wife, Rebecca Limb.
In 1851 widowed William (Ellin in census index) was still living at Pinxton Wharf, Pinxton, & was described as a pensioner. Living with him was son Joab (Job), a coal miner, & his wife Ann & their 5 month old son Thomas. Also with them was William’s grandson William Hardy (20) & granddaughter Ann (16), children of deceased daughter Sarah.
William died in July-September 1852, aged 69, the death being registered
at Pinxton.
