Kate Fry [f.6.4.6]

Kate Fry was the sixth child of Elizabeth Brett & John Fry born Oct-December 1877 at Charlwood, Surrey.

In 1881 & 1891 Kate was living at Peters Farm, Rusper, Sussex with her parents & brothers & sisters.

In 1901 Kate was employed by widow Ann Jane Keates, aged 70, & her daughter Louisa Frances at Rownhams House, Rownhams, Hampshire. There were 7 servants to look after them & Kate was a housemaid.
Rownhams House was a large brick mansion set in 40 acres of grounds & Mrs Keates was mentioned as the owner in ‘A History of the County of Hampshire’ published in 1908. Ann Keates had been widowed for more than 30 years & before his death her husband, John Keates, was a copper & lead merchant.

Kate married Edward Henry Herrington on April 28th, 1903 at West Grinstead, Sussex. Edward was born c1875 at Westhampnett, Sussex, the son of Isabella & Edward Herrington, an agricultural labourer.

Kate & Edward were living at The Stables, Mill Lane House, Slindon, Westhampnett, Sussex where Edward was a coachman in 1911. They had 3 children at this time – Ellen Catherine (7), Edward Henry (5) & Margaret Isabel (6 months).
