Letitia Freeth [fh.4.6.1.2.12.6]

Letitia Freeth was the sixth child of George Henry Freeth born Oct-December 1883 at Warrington, Lancs.  She was the first child of George Henry Freeth’s second marriage to Martha Gleeve.

Letitia was living at home in 1891 with her father & mother Martha, & brothers & sisters at 27 Oxford Lane, Warrington.

In 1901 Letitia was still living at home at 27 Oxford Lane, Warrington with her parents & 2 younger sisters.  Letitia was a cardboard box maker.

On December 14th, 1901 Letitia married James Langley at St Peter’s, Warrington.  James was born August 29th, 1878 & christened September 21st, 1878 at Warrington, the son of Mary Jane & Joseph Langley, a labourer.

Sadly both of Letitia’s first 2 children died in infancy – Beatrice, aged 2, & Lilian 0.

In 1911 Letitia & James were living at 160 Gorsey Lane, Warrington with their 2 surviving children, Harry (5) & May (2), two children having died.  James was a wire drawer.

Son Harry (17) & daughter May (14) emigrated to USA sailing from Liverpool on the SS Celtic on April 7th & arriving in New York on April 16th, 1923.  Harry was listed as an apprentice engineer & May as a domestic.  They gave their father’s name as the nearest relative, still living at Gorsey Lane.  It was stated on the ship’s manifest that they were going to join their uncle Robert Evans whose address was 203 W. London St, Philadelphia.  Letitia & James & the rest of the family emigrated to join them in 1924.

The US census of 1930 shows Letitia & James living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with their children Harry (24), Elsie (16) & Gladys (8).  Later in 1930 Harry married Viola E Grimm.

Letitia was naturalized in 1936 when her address was 437 E. Eleanor St, Philadelphia. 
Letitia & James were still living at 437 E. Eleanor St, Philadelphia in 1940 & James was a wire drawer in the production of umbrellas.  Daughter Gladys was still living with them & was a hosiery examiner. 

This was still their address in 1942 when James was registered during WW2.
