Samuel Freeth [fh.4.6.1.5]

Samuel Freeth was the fifth child of Samuel Freeth & Frances Grigg christened December 16th, 1804 at the Presbyterian Church, Oldbury by Halesowen, Shrops.

Samuel married Sarah Round on August 5th, 1822 at St Thomas, Dudley, Worcs.

In 1841 Samuel & Sarah were living at ‘Nine Seasons’, Oldbury Rd, Smethwick. Samuel was described as a labourer & they had 3 children living with them – Samuel (15), Job (9) & Hannah (6). Daughter Sarah (12) was a servant at the home of William Lloyd & family, an ironmonger, living at High St, West Bromwich.

In 1851 Samuel & Sarah (listed as Freett) were still living at ‘Nine Seasons’, Oldbury Rd, & Samuel was listed as a glass packer. They had 5 children at home – Samuel (26) who was deaf & dumb from birth, Sarah (22) a dressmaker, Job (18) a glass polisher, Hannah (16) a dressmaker & Joseph (9).

They were still living at ‘Nine Seasons’ in 1861 & Samuel continued to work as a glass packer. Son Samuel, also a glass packer, was still at home, as was Joseph, a glass cutter.

Sarah died Jan-March 1866, aged 68, her death being registered at Kings Norton.
