Emily Lizzie Grove was the second child of Frederick Grove & Alice born December 2nd, 1865 & christened June 10th, 1866 at St John the Baptist, Croydon, Surrey.
In 1871 she was living at Haddon New Rd, Croydon, with her parents & sisters Alice Edith & Edith Harriett.
By 1881 the family had moved to Union Rd, Croydon & had grown to include 6 sisters & 1 brother.
In 1891 Emily (26) was working as a parlour maid for Thomas Easton, a lighterman
(worked on a “lighter” – a flat-bottomed boat used for transferring
goods from ship to shore) & his family living at Addiscombe Rd, Croydon.
