Emma Sarah Grove was the third child of William Grove & Emma Elizabeth born Jan-March 1862 at Mile End Old Town, Stepney.
In 1871 Emma was living at the District Asylum for the Deaf & Dumb, Kent Road, St George the Martyr, Southwark. She & her sister Annie Jane were described as scholars.
In 1881 Emma was at home with her parents & older sister Annie at Albion St, Mile End Old Town, where she was a waistcoat maker. It was noted in the census that she was deaf & dumb, as was her sister.
In 1891 she was still at home with her parents at Mile End. Her sister Annie, (now Worcester) & son were visiting.
In Oct-Dec 1894 Emma married James Sanderson at Mile End. James, a marble polisher, was also deaf & dumb. He was born Jan-March 1860 at Spitalfields, London.
In 1901 they were living at Meadows Dwelling, Bethnal Green with their 5 year old son Albert James, who was not recorded as deaf & dumb. Emma was a vest maker.
