Clara Horton was the sixth child of Henry Horton & Mary Morris born August 11th, 1890 at Burslem, Staffs.
In 1891 Clara & her parents were living at 50 Nile St, Burslem. She had 2 sisters & a brother at this time.
Clara was still living at home in 1901, now 64 Hamil Rd, Burslem. As well as her parents she had 2 brothers & 4 sisters.
In 1911 Clara was still living at the same address with her parents, a younger brother & 2 sisters who were earthenware enamellers. Clara was now working as an earthenware gilder.
On August 7th, 1913 Clara set sail from Liverpool on the Celtic destined for New York. The ship’s manifest shows that she was a gilder.
Clara married Frank Kingsley Oakes on August 13th, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois. Frank Kingsley Oakes was born December 4th, 1881 at Burslem, Staffs, the son of Emma Hawkins & Jabez Oakes. Frank, an engineer, had sailed from Liverpool to Montreal, Canada on May 13th, 1913. He eventually arrived on June 8th, 1913 in Detroit Michigan.
By 1919 they had moved to Cook County, Illinois where their daughter, Mildred Winifred, was born on April 2nd.
In 1920 Clara & Frank & Mildred were living at West Arthington St, Chicago Ward 13 & Frank was working as a merchant in a machine shop.
Frank was naturalized in May 1926.
They lived in Oak Park, Illinois until at least 1940.
Daughter Mildred married Walter Joseph Dunn on November 10th, 1943 in Cook County, Illinois.
By 1959 Frank & Clara were listed as living in Polks, San Diego, California.
Frank died, aged 72, on January 12th, 1961 in San Diego.
Clara died, aged 93, on December 9th, 1983 at El Cajon, San Diego.
