Arthur Horton was the second child of George Horton & Eliza Child christened September 4th, 1859 at St Thomas, Birmingham, Warks.
In 1861 Arthur, sister Eliza & his parents were living at Alma St, Oak Terrace, Aston Manor, Birmingham where his father was a jeweller.
By 1871 the family were living at 31 Constitution Hill, St George, Birmingham. Arthur had another sister & a brother by this time.
Arthur was still living at home in 1881 at 8 Villa Grove, Handsworth, Staffs. Both he & his father were described as jewellers.
By 1891 Arthur & his parents had returned to Aston Manor & were living at 88 Wills St. Arthur was now described as a gem setter & his brother George was a merchant clerk.
Arthur married Rosina Farndon, nee Dipple, in July-September 1892, the marriage being registered at Aston. Rosina was christened January 3rd, 1864 at St George, Birmingham, the daughter of Eliza & Thomas Dipple, a brass worker. Rosina had married George Enoch Farndon, an auctioneer’s clerk, in July-September 1887 at Aston, who sadly died in Oct-December 1887, aged 26. In 1891 widowed Rose was living with her sister Alice Dipple at 130 Carr St, Aston & working as a dressmaker.
In 1901 Arthur & Rosina were living at 84 Antrobus Rd, Handsworth where Arthur was a jeweller & gem seller. They had 3 children – Ida (8) George Arthur (5) & William F (3). With them at the time of the census was Rosina’s 29 year old brother Alfred Dipple, a plumber’s brass founder.
Rosina died in Jan-March 1911, aged 47, at Handsworth.
Widowed Arthur was living with his father George Horton at 36 Frances Rd, Handsworth in 1911. Arthur, described as a jeweller (ring maker) had his 3 children with him – Ida (18), their housekeeper, George Arthur (15), a jeweller (brooch maker) & William Frank (13) still at school.
