Arthur Herbert Horton was the fourth child of Joseph Hale Horton & Hannah Baker born July-September 1874 at Greasbrough, Rotherham, Yorkshire.
In 1881 Arthur was living with his parents & brothers & sister at 3 Holm Flat Row, Greasbrough.
Arthur was still living at home in 1891 with his family at the same address. He was working as a horse driver at the colliery.
In 1901 Arthur was still at home at 3 Holm Flat & he was now working as a coal hewer.
Arthur married Elizabeth Hirst on April 16th, 1906 at Parkgate, Rotherham. Elizabeth was born March 22nd, 1884 at Ordsall, Retford, Notts.
In 1911 Arthur & Elizabeth were living at 78 Bear Tree Rd, Parkgate, Rotherham, 2 doors from brother James Horton. They had 2 children – Joseph Arthur (4) & Doris (2). Arthur was described as a ‘miner day man below ground'. Son Joseph was admitted to Harthill with Woodall Provided School in July 1910 & left in 1913.
Arthur died in July-September 1930, aged 55, his death being registered at Rotherham.
The 1939 register shows widowed Elizabeth still living at 78 Bear Tree Rd, Parkgate & with her was son Joseph, a colliery haulage coporal underground.
