Henry Horton was the fourth child of Richard Horton & Mary Phipps born c1855 at West Bromwich.
Henry was not at home with his parents at the time of the 1861 census, however there is an entry for Mary, aged 5 & this could be a mistake by the census taker as there is no evidence for Mary Horton of appropriate age in any further census.
In 1871 Henry was living at home with his parents & older sister Sarah at Dunkirk Rd, West Bromwich & he was a pupil teacher.
Henry married Sarah Edge in April-June 1878 in Birmingham. Sarah was born 1849 at Smethwick, the daughter of Mary & Joseph Edge, an optical glass worker. In 1861 Sarah was a seamstress.
By 1881 Henry & Sarah were living at Upper Normancot Rd, Stone, Staffs. Henry was a school master & they had a 1 year old son Harry O born in Longton.
In 1888 Henry was the informant of the death of his mother Mary who died on May 7th. At the time his address was 53 Upper Normancot Rd.
By 1891 Henry & Sarah were living at Argyle Terrace, Chaplin Rd, Longton, Trentham, Staffs. Henry was an elementary schoolmaster, & they still only had one son Harry.
At the time of the 1901 census they were living at School House, Longton & Henry was still a schoolmaster. Son Harry was a student at Battersea Training College.
Henry & Sarah were still at School House (131 Anchor Rd) in 1911 & Henry continued to be a schoolmaster at Woodhouse elementary school.
