Jane Lister [li.3]

Jane Lister was the third child of Thomas Lister & Ann Pattison christened August 4th, 1817 at Ormesby, Yorks.

There is a Jane Lister, aged 20, listed as a female servant for William Hebdon, a draper at North Row, Stokesley in 1841.

At the time of the 1851 census Jane was visiting her sister Elizabeth Lister, now married to George Grenside at Front St, Stokesley.

Jane married Robert Rickatson, a farmer, on June 1st, 1853 at Stokesley. Witnesses at the wedding were George Grenside (Jane’s brother-in-law) & Mary Grenside. Robert was the son of Adah & Henry Rickatson, christened April 6th, 1808 at Kirby in Cleveland, Yorks.

In 1861 Jane & Robert were living at Front St, North Side, Stokesley & Robert’s occupation was a currier. They had a 10 year old visitor – Jane’s nephew William Grenside (son of Jane’s sister Elizabeth & husband George).

They were still living at Front St in 1871 & Robert was still a currier (a person who dresses & colours tanned leather). They had a 17 year old servant.

Jane died July-September, 1877, aged 60, at Stokesley.

In 1881 Robert had moved to High Green, Stokesley & was described as a retired currier. He had a 25 year old housekeeper, Eliza Smith.

Robert died in July-September, 1888. aged 80, at Stokesley.
