Benjamin Taylor Lister was the first child of John Lister & Elizabeth Taylor christened May 18th, 1850 at Eston, Yorks.
In 1851 & 1861 Benjamin lived with his parents at Ormesby.
Benjamin could not be found in the 1871 census but he had married Ellen Deighton in Jan-March 1873, the marriage being registered at Stockton. Ellen was the daughter of John & Mary Deighton born April-June 1853 at Sockburn, nr Northallerton, Yorks.
In 1881 Benjamin & Ellen (Helen in census) were living at 112 Portrack Lane, Stockton. Benjamin was a licensed victualler, & they had a daughter Frances Elizabeth (5) & a son Henry (2). Brother Robert (22), a stone mason, & sister Mary (14), a domestic servant, were living with them.
The following year Benjamin & Ellen & family emigrated to Australia on the Peterborough arriving there on December 27th, 1882. Benjamin gave his occupation on the Assisted Immigrant Passenger List as stonemason & named a cousin Thomas Taylor as already living in Waterloo, NSW. There had been another addition to the family, a little girl named Mary E, aged 1 year.
Sadly Benjamin died the next year on June 21st 1883 at Sydney, NSW.
Daughter Frances Elizabeth was to marry Frederick W Evans in 1895 in Sydney.
In 1898 Ellen remarried at Campsie, NSW, her second husband being Joseph Flatters.
Ellen died, aged 88, in 1941 in Canterbury, NSW.
