Richard Lister [li.7.1]

Richard Lister was the first child of Thomas Lister & Hannah Herring christened November 16th, 1852 at West Acklam, Yorks.

In 1861 Richard & his parents & family were living at Ormesby, Yorks.

He was still at home in 1871 & working as an assistant carter to his father. They were living at High St, Ormesby.

At the time of the 1881 census Richard was a farmer of 5 acres still living at Ormesby with his younger brothers John (16) & Frederick (8).

In 1891 Richard was living at Thimbleby, near Osmotherley, N. Yorks & was described as a wood leader & farmer (a wood leader apparently carried wooden props to a mine by horse & cart). With Richard was his brother James, a farmer, who had married Elizabeth Blenkhorn in 1890. They had a number of farm servants. .

In April-June 1893 Richard had married his cousin Elizabeth Ann Macrae (nee Brown), (daughter of his aunt Margaret Lister [li.6] & Henry Brown christened September 3rd, 1854 at Thornaby, Yorks). Elizabeth had previously been married to John Macrae.

Richard & Elizabeth lived at Thimbleby until at least 1898 when Richard was the informant of the death of his father-in-law Henry Brown.

In 1901 Richard was now a farmer living at Guisborough Rd, Great Ayton, Yorks & he & Elizabeth had a 6 year old daughter, Hannah Margaret. Living with them was Elizabeth’s mother, Margaret Brown (nee Lister), aged 76 & living on her own means. Also living with them was a niece Elizabeth Jane Brown (16), daughter of Elizabeth's brother William H Brown. In October 1901 Richard was the informant of the death of his mother-in-law (& aunt) Margaret Brown.

There is a death for Richard Lister, aged 66, in Jan-March 1919, registered at Stokesley.
