Frederick Lister was the tenth child of Thomas Lister & Hannah Herring born 1872 at Ormesby, Yorks.
At the time of the 1881 census Frederick was living with his older brother Richard, who was a farmer of 5 acres at Ormesby. Also with them was his older brother John (16).
In 1891 Frederick was lodging at West Burton, Aysgarth, near Richmond & was described as a horse wagoner. Listed on the census with him was a Richard Lister, aged 32, possibly Frederick's brother. However Richard was also listed in the 1891 census at Thimbleby, Osmotherley with his brother James. Richard's occupation was given both times as a wagoner or carter & it is possible that he travelled between the two villages & hence was listed on the census for both.
In 1901 Frederick was living with his brother John at Ormesby. Frederick
was described as a navvy & John was a contractor man. They were both unmarried
& had a 49 year old domestic house keeper Jane Lambert.
