Hannah Maria Lister was the ninth child of Thomas Lister & Ann Pattison christened July 31st , 1831 at Ormesby, Yorks.
In 1841 Hannah was living at home with her parents & family at Ormesby.
In 1851 Hannah was working as a servant at the home of her sister Ann, now married to butcher Robert Robinson who were living at West St, Middlesbrough with their 2 children.
Hannah (now calling herself Maria) married George Kirk in July-September 1856 at Stockton. George was the son of Mary & John Kirk, a carpenter, christened December 7th, 1828 at Thirsk, Yorks.
In 1861 Maria & George were living at Albert Rd, Middlesbrough with daughters Mary A (2) & Sarah (2 months old). George was a builder.
There is a death recorded for George Kirk in Oct-December 1864 at Stockton.

Hannah Maria remarried in Oct-December 1868. Her second husband was Isaac Phillips & the marriage was registered at Stockton. Isaac was christened April 10th, 1828 at Penderyn, Brecon, Wales, the son of Margaret & Isaac Phillips, & had previously been married to Elizabeth with whom he had at least 3 children.
Hannah died in July-September 1870, aged 39, her death being registered at Stockton. Hannah & Isaac had a son, John Adam, born 1869 at Middlesbrough who was living with his widowed father Isaac at Albert Rd, Middlesborough at the time of the 1871 census. Isaac was a rail inspector.
In 1871 both Hannah's daughters Mary A & Sarah Kirk were scholars boarding at Cromwell Terr, Middlesbrough with Henry & Jane Wilson.
In 1881 Sarah was a governess at Catterick School, Yorks & her sister Mary Ann was visiting her aunt Ann, sister of Hannah Maria, married to Robert Robinson, at High Denmark St, Middlesbrough.
At the time of the 1911 census Mary Ann was still unmarried & was listed with her sister Sarah who had married John George Mills. They were living at The Chalet, Stafford Rd, Wallington, Surrey.
Isaac died in Jan-March 1878, aged 51, the death being registered at York.
By 1881 son John Phillips had been adopted by John Heskett, the manager of a steel works. At the time of the 1881 census John & his adopted family were living at Carbon Villa, Eston, Yorks.
It appears that son John Adam Phillips, along with the Heskett family, emigrated to Australia between 1881 and 1886, the year John Heskett died. John was to marry Ella Bertram Kellie & they had 2 sons, Geoffrey Broome Phillips & Jack Kellie Phillips. In 1928 a newspaper article mentioned that John was working as a newsagent. The family lived in Melbourne, Victoria where John died, aged 75, on September 2nd, 1944 at St Mary’s Hospital, Wangaratta. Both John & wife Ella (who died in 1927) were buried at the Maddingley Cemetery, Bacchus Marsh, Victoria.
