Alice married William Hague Scoley on October 30th, 1890 at Christ Church, Croydon. Witnesses at the wedding were Thomas Mays & Alice’s sister Harriett. At the time of the wedding William was a coachman living at 60 Stanley Rd, Croydon. William was born April-June 1867 at Newark, Notts, the son of Sarah Ann & William Hague Scoley, a licensed victualler (deceased at the time of the wedding).
In 1891 Alice & William were living at the Queens Head in Hertford where William was the innkeeper.
By 1901 Alice & William had moved to 26 St Andrews St, Hertford & William was now a cab fly proprietor. They had 2 sons – William (9) & Percy (6). They also had a boarder.
In 1911 they were still living at the same address but William was now a jobmaster. Only son Percy Henry was still living at home & he worked as a farm labourer. They had a 23 year old boarder, George Young, a printer’s compositor. Son William had left home & was working as a draper’s assistant & living at 30 Balham Grove, Wandsworth, SW London.
Alice, of 72 Hertingfordbury Rd, Hertford, died on May 17th, 1945, aged 77, at Western House Public Assistance Institution, Ware Hertfordshire. Administration of her estate was granted to widower William, a retired smallholder. Alice’s effects were £299.5s.11d.
William died on February 29th, 1948, aged 80, at 72 Hertingfordbury Rd, Hertford. Probate was granted to son William Thomas, a tailor & outfitter. His effects were £1,631.8s.5d.
