At the time of the 1881 census George, aged 15, was found in Her Majesty’s Prison, Wandsworth Common, London. At that time he was described as a pageboy & domestic servant.
George married Paulina Christina Sauerland in Oct-December 1890 at Kensington. Paulina was born April-June 1869 at Mile End, London.
In 1891 George & Paulina were living at 22 Queens St, St Marylebone, London & George was a coachman (groom).
By 1901 George & Paulina had moved to 163 Walmer Rd, Kensington Town, London & George still worked as coachman & Paulina was a laundress with her own account. They had 3 children – Mary (9), George (5) & Joseph (2).
In 1911 the family were living at 15 Dulford St, Notting Hill, Kensington & George continued to be a coachman. Wife Paulina & daughter Mary were both described as laundresses working at home. Son George was a butcher boy & Joseph was also at home. They also had a lodger – Arthur Leed, a contractor carman.
There is a death for George Mays, aged 81, in April-June 1947 at Kensington.
There is a death for Pauline Mays, aged 83, in Oct-December 1952 at Kensington.
