William Pallister was the fifth child of Robert Pallister & Rachael Blakey born Jan-March 1853 at Longbenton, Northumberland.
In 1861 William was living with his parents & 4 sisters at the Grey Horse Inn at Killingworth. The head of the household was his grandmother Elizabeth Blakey, a 74 year old inn keeper.
William was still at home in 1871, now 1 Country View, Cambois, Morpeth, Northumberland &, like his father, worked as a coal miner. He had 2 younger sisters at home.
William & his widowed mother Rachael, a dressmaker, were living at 3 Davison St, Cowpen, Northumberland in 1881. They had a 23 year old boarder, Thomas Moore, also a coal miner like William.
Later in 1881 (July-September) William married Isabella Rhodes, the marriage being registered at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Isabella was born July-September 1859 at Cowpen, Northumberland, the daughter of Margaret & Luke Rhodes, a coal miner.
In 1891 William & Isabella were living at Cowpen, Northumberland & William was working as a coal trimmer. With them at the time of the census was niece Sarah E Rhodes, aged 10. Sarah was the daughter of Isabella’s older brother John & his wife Charlotte Marson. Sadly Charlotte died in 1883 at the age of 24 & it appears that daughter Sarah was cared for by William & Isabella & their other daughter, Margaret, was looked after by her father & grandparents.
By 1901 William, still a coal trimmer, & Isabella were living at 1 Percy
St South, Newsham & South Blyth, Northumberland. Niece Sarah Rhodes was
still living with them & was a dressmaker working from home with her own
account.
