Catherine Pallister [p.1.6.3.6.1.3]

Catherine Pallister was the third child of William Pallister & Sarah Harker born at Heworth, Co Durham in Oct-December 1852.

Catherine & her parents & her brothers & sisters were living at Heworth Colliery in 1861.

By 1871 Catherine had left home and was working as a domestic servant for Jane Backworth, a farmer at Hetton Quay, Hetton-le-Hole, Co. Durham.

On February 13th, 1875 Catherine married James Watson at Heworth, Gateshead. James was born c1853 in Cumberland, the son of James Watson.

In 1881 Catherine and James were living at Sea View Lodge, Sunderland, Bishop Wearmouth and James was a domestic gardener. They had a daughter Jane (5), son William (3) and baby Martha A (9 months).

They were still living at the same address in 1891 and James continued to be a gardener. They now had six children – Sarah Jane (age 15), William J, Martha A, Mary (6), Rebecca (4) and Lilly (2).

By 1901 the family had moved to Ashburn Gardens, Bishop Wearmouth;  James was still a gardener. Children at home were Mary, Violet I (aged 14, Rebecca in the last census?) and Elizabeth  (aged 11 years – presumably Lilly ?).

In 1911 Catherine and James were living at Herrington Hall Gardens, Warden Law, Middle Herrington and James was now a head gardener. Only daughter Lilley May (21) was still at home. It was noted on the census that Catherine had had 9 children, 3 of whom had died.
