William Pallister was the first child of Peter Pallister & Catherine Gerry born at Southwick, Sunderland & christened March 30th, 1823 at St Hilda’s, South Shields.
In 1841 William was still living at home with his parents & brothers & sisters at Gateshead, Co Durham. He was a coal miner.
William married Sarah Harker in July-September 1848, the marriage being registered at Gateshead. Sarah was born in Felling, Co Durham & christened March 29th, 1829 at Heworth, Co Durham, the daughter of Margaret & James Harker, a miner.
In 1851 William & Sarah were living at High Road, Lamesley, Co Durham & William was still a coal miner. They had 2 children – Margaret (1) & Peter (1 month). Visiting was Sarah’s younger sister Margaret Harker (12).
The family had moved to Heworth Colliery by 1861 & they now had 6 children – Margaret, Peter, a coal screener, Catherine (8), James H (5), Elizabeth Ann (4) & Hannah (2).
In 1871 William & Sarah were found at Railway Row, Usworth, Co Durham where William continued to work in the mines. At home were Peter, James H, Elizabeth Ann, Hannah, William (10) & Sarah (8).
William died in Oct-December 1871 at the age of 48, the death being registered at Chester-le-Street.

Sarah remarried in July-September 1874, the marriage being registered at Durham. Her new husband was James Hall who had previously been married & his wife Elizabeth had died in Jan-March 1873. James was born c1830 at Houghton, Co Durham & was a coal miner.
In 1881 Sarah & James were living at Tunstall, near Sunderland, Co Durham with Sarah’s children William, a coal miner, & Hannah Pallister. There was also a grandchild, Peter Pallister, aged 3 who was born in Usworth, possibly Hannah’s illegitimate child. Also with them were some of James’s children from his previous marriage – Robert (18), a coal miner, Alice (13), Jane (11) & James (8).
Sarah & James were still living at Tunstall in 1891, at 12 George St. At home were Alice & James Hall, William Pallister & grandson Peter Pallister, all 3 boys were coal miners.
James died in Jan-March 1895, aged 64, the death being registered at Sunderland.
In 1901 widowed Sarah, aged 72, was living with her son William & his wife Sarah (nee Reynoldson) (36) & baby daughter Mary (1) at 12 George St. Still also living with them was Peter Pallister, now described as William’s nephew.
Son William, a coal miner hewer, & his wife Sarah were living at 38 Mary St, Silksworth in 1911 with daughters Mary (11) & Ethel (8).
