Catherine Pallister was the seventh child of Peter Pallister & Catherine Gerry born January 17th, 1837 at Wrekenton & christened February 12th, 1837 at Gateshead Fell, Co Durham.
Catherine lived at home with her parents at Wrekenton. Co Durham until 1861. The following year Catherine had an illegitimate son, Joseph.
Catherine was still with her parents in 1871, now in their 70s. They were living at Boundary House, Gateshead & her son Joseph (9) was also living with them.
Catherine had another illegitimate child, William, born on April 25th, 1872 at Gateshead.
Catherine married Richard Blythman in Oct-December 1880, the marriage being registered at Gateshead. Richard was born 1837 at Birtley, & christened at Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, the son of Eleanor & John Blythman, a coal miner.
In 1881 Catherine & Richard were living at Eighton Banks, Lamesley, Co Durham where Richard was a blacksmith. With them were Catherine’s children Joseph (19), also a blacksmith & William (8). The surname of both children was given as Blythman. Living next door was Richard’s widowed mother Eleanor Blythman, aged 83, described as an annuitant.
Catherine & Richard were still at Eighton Banks in 1891, & now living at Galloping Green. Richard was now employed as an engine fitter & living with them was son William, now listed as William P Blythman. William was a clerk at the school board office. Living next door was Catherine’s other son Joseph Pallister, who had married Annie Nicholl in 1886, & their son Richard J (2).
In 1901 Catherine & Richard were living on their own at Coach Road, Eighton Banks & Richard was a steam engine fitter. Son Joseph Pallister & family was still living next door & another near neighbour was Catherine’s sister-in-law, Margaret Pallister (58), who was widowed following the death of husband Robert. Margaret had 4 children living at home. Catherine’s son William Pallister had married Florence Mounsey in 1900 & he & his wife were living at Gateshead in 1901 where he was clerk to an accountant.
Catherine died in Oct-December 1909, aged 72, the death being registered at South Shields.
Widowed Richard was living with stepson William Pallister (an income tax collector & assessor) & his wife Florence & their 4 children at 19 Lawe Cottages, South Shields, Co Durham in 1911. Richard was described as a retired locomotive fitter.
Richard died in Oct-December 1819, aged 83, his death being registered in South Shields.
