William Pallister was the third child of Peter Pallister & Hannah Garthwaite christened May 28th, 1757 at All Saints, Lanchester, Co. Durham.
William married Isabella Blackburn (Blakeburn) on June 4th, 1785 at Lanchester. Isabel(la) was christened May 9th 1762 at Lanchester, the daughter of Robert & Alice Blackburn.

At the time of the birth of their first child Robert in 1786 William & Isabella were living at Ousterly, Co. Durham. By the time of the arrival of the second child Cuthbert two years later their address was given as Harraton, Co Durham & William was described as a horse keeper.

William & Isabella later lived in the Lanchester area & William was noted as a farmer of Iveston, Greencroft & Preston on the birth registers of his later children. These places are all near to Lanchester.
Isabella died c1806 in Co. Durham.

William married again on November 2nd, 1807 in Chester-le-Street. His second
wife was Eleanor Welsh (nee Manners) born at Fatfield & christened December
8th 1771 at Chester-le-Street, the daughter of Ralph & Elizabeth Manners.
William signed the marriage register & Eleanor made her mark. They were
both of the parish of Chester-le-Street. A witness at the wedding was Thomas
Pallister.

Eleanor had previously been married to John Welsh, their marriage having taken place on May 13th, 1798 at Washington. John & Eleanor Welsh had 3 known sons - Ralph Welsh born Jan 30th, 1799 & christened April 7th at Longbenton, Peter Manners Welsh born 1803 & Robert Welsh born 1804, both christened at Chester-le-Street. On the IGI list of marriages for Chester-le-Street William is noted as marrying Eleanor Welsh.
William benefited from the will of his uncle William which was proved in 1800 & his father’s will which was proved in 1809. In his uncle’s will it was mentioned that William was of Iveston, nr Lanchester.
William & Eleanor had 4 children but unfortunately the first son John died at age 18 months, the cause of death being given as ‘weakness’. At the time of his second son’s birth in 1810 William was described as a merchant of Birtley & in 1812 he was noted as a shop keeper. At the time of the birth of daughter Mary in 1814 William & Eleanor were living at Eighton Banks, a colliery hamlet between Birtley & Gateshead.
