Thomas Stainsby was the second child of William Stainsby & Adah Stephenson born at Ruston, Yorks & christened April 3rd, 1850 at Wykeham, Yorks.
In 1861 Thomas was living at Price St, York with his parents & 2 brothers & 2 sisters. At the age of 11 he was an errand boy.
They were still living at Price St, number 59, in 1871 but without mother Adah who had died in 1864. Thomas was now a carriage builder & grandmother Elizabeth Stainsby (92) was living with them.
In 1881 Thomas was still working as a carriage builder & boarding at the home of widow Mary Waterworth (70), a provision dealer, at 36 Blossom St, Micklegate, York.
Thomas died in July-September 1887, aged 37, the death being registered at
