Joseph Stainsby was the fourth child of William Stainsby & Jane Stephenson was born at 10 Benson St, Linthorpe in 1882 & christened June 25th, 1882 at Linthorpe.
In 1891 Joseph was living at home at Newport Rd, Middlesbrough. Also at home were children Thomas (14), Edith (12), Nellie (10), Mary E (6), George (4) & John (1).
In 1901 Joseph was still at home at 3 Leechmere Rd, Ryhope & was working as a bricklayer’s apprentice.
Joseph married Elizabeth Agnes Geddis in Jan-March, 1909 at Sunderland. Elizabeth was born Jan-March 1885 at Sunderland. At the time of the 1901 census she was living at home with her parents Jane & Archibald Geddis, a shoe maker, & brothers & sisters at 45 Windsor Terrace, Grangetown. She was working as a stocking knitter at this time.
Their short married life was spent at 11 Oxford Rd, Grangetown. They had one daughter, Jennie, who married John Robert Groundon, a grocer, in 1932 at St Paul’s, Ryhope. A witness at Jennie’s wedding was her cousin, Freda Mary Earnshaw.
Joseph, a bricklayer, sadly died on October 27th, 1910, aged 28, & was
buried at St Aidan's cemetery, Grangetown. The following inscription is on
the headstone of his parents grave.

Elizabeth continued to live at Oxford St, Grangetown until at least 1918.
