Margaret Stainsby was the second child of Robert Stainsby & Elizabeth Brewer born April-June 1844 at Brawby, Nr Kirby Misperton, Yorks.
In 1851 Margaret was at home with her parents & brothers & sisters at Westgate, Pickering.
In 1861 Margaret was living at Fryton, Yorks at a private house & working as a house servant for Robert Forth, a farmer, & his wife & family.
In the 1871 census it was recorded that a Louisa Stainsby, aged 4, was a daughter of Margaret’s parents living at Fryton. However in the 1881 census this same Louisa, still living with Margaret’s parents was described as their granddaughter. It seems likely that Louisa was the illigitimate child of Margaret, born Oct-December 1866 at Fryton as there is a christening recorded for Louisa Stainsby, daughter of Margaret Stainsby (no father) on August 23rd, 1874 at Hovingham, (near Fryton), Yorks.
By 1871 Margaret had moved to 13 Springfield Mount in West Leeds where she was a cook for the Tatham family, the head of which was George Tatham, a leather manufacturer.
Margaret was still working as a cook for the Tatham family in 1881 at Springfield Mount.
In 1891 Margaret was still employed by George Tatham, who was now widowed & described as a magistrate as well as a leather manufacturer. They were still living at Springfield Mount, Leeds & Margaret’s occupation was now given as general servant domestic.
Margaret was still working at 25 Springfield Mount in 1901 as a domestic cook. Head of the household was now Georgiana Tatham, the daughter of George Tatham.

Margaret was living with her sister, Elizabeth, at 4 Trelawn Terrace, Headingley in 1917. Sister Elizabeth died there in 1917.
Margaret died on July 24th, 1918 at 4 Trelawn Terrace, Ash Road, Headingley, Leeds. Probate was granted in London on October 15th, 1918 to her brother Joseph Stainsby, a carting agent & daughter Louisa Grantham, widow. Her effects were £120.12s.1d.
