James Stone [st.2]

James Stones was the second child of Joseph Stones & Miranda Berber christened December 26th, 1798 at St Phillip’s, Birmingham.

James married Eliza.

st.2.5 James Stone christened April 7th, 1833 at Trevethin, Monmouth

James, aged 39, married again on January 4th, 1838 at St Lawrence, Darlaston, Wolverhampton, Staffs. He married Mary Hebert, whose age at the time of marriage was given as 35. Mary was christened January 9th, 1803 at Bilston, Staffs, the daughter of John & Martha Hebert.

In 1841 James & Mary (Maria in census) were living at Hall Fields, Bilston, Wolverhampton. Children at home were Esther (12), Benjamin (10), James (8), Elizabeth (6) & Martha (2). James was an iron labourer.

There is a death for James Stone in April-June 1847 at West Bromwich.

Widowed Mary was living at Old Meeting St, West Bromwich at the time of the 1851 census & described as an annuitant. With her were children Harriett H (26), a ladies nurse, Esther, a tailoress, Benjamin, an iron roller, James, an iron shearer, & Elizabeth, Martha & Joseph (9). Living at the same address was Susannah Sargent, a 36 year old infant school teacher.

In 1861 Mary was still at Old Meeting St, number 5, with only son Joseph, a railway clerk, still at home. Susannah Sargent, now described as a teacher at British school was still living with Mary.

In 1871 Mary (67) was found with her daughter Hannah who had married John Bowater, an oil & tallow merchant. They were living at Queen St, West Bromwich with their 3 children – Phoebe, John & William.

In 1881 Mary was visiting her son Joseph, a commercial clerk in the iron trade, & his wife Elizabeth at 16 Whitehall Rd, Gateshead, Co Durham. Joseph had 4 children at this time – Lucy, Joseph H, William M & Mary E.

Mary died in April-June 1889, aged 86, at Gateshead.
