Hannah Stone was the fourth child of Joseph Stones & Miranda Berber christened June 21st, 1807 at All Saints, West Bromwich.
Hannah married Joseph Fletcher on March 27th, 1826 at Tipton, Staffs. Joseph was born c1806 at Dudley, Worcs.
In 1841 Hannah & Joseph were living at Rolf St, Smethwick & Joseph was a ball turner. They had 3 children at home – Benjamin (10), Joseph (5) & (Sarah) Miranda (4). Their first daughter, Miranda, born in 1832 had presumably died as no further record was found for her. Living nearby in Rolf St was Hannah’s older sister Miranda now married to John Baker.
Hannah & Joseph were still at Rolfe St, Smethwick in 1851 & Joseph was now a sheet iron furnace man as was his son Benjamin & son Joseph was an assistant sheet iron shearer. Also at home were (Sarah) Miranda (13) & Richard (3). With the family was Hannah’s sister Miranda Baker, a ladies nurse.
In 1861 Hannah & Joseph were again at Rolfe St & Joseph was now forge manager & son Joseph was a furnaceman. Daughter (Sarah) Miranda was still at home & still living with them was Hannah’s widowed sister Miranda Baker. Living next door was Hannah's son Benjamin, a furnaceman, with his wife Ann (nee Edmunds) & their 4 children.
Son Joseph married Jane Bowater in Jan-March 1864, the marriage being registered at Kings Norton, Worcs. Joseph was a pawnbroker when he died on February 15th, 1869 at Smethwick. The executors to his will were his widow Jane, his father Joseph & John James Bowater, oil merchant.
At the time of the 1871 census Hannah & Joseph were at 139 Rolfe St, Smethwick, & Joseph was still a forge manager & Hannah was shop keeper. Daughter (Sarah) Miranda was the only child at home & she was an assistant shop keeper. Living next door was daughter-in-law Ann Fletcher, now widowed, who was also a shop keeper, & her family.
Joseph died on January 18th, 1873, aged 69, at Rolfe St, Smethwick. Administration (with will) was granted on August 3rd, 1873 to grandson Albert Edward Fletcher, school attendance officer. Joseph’s effects were £10.
In 1881 widow Hannah was living with her daughter (Sarah) Miranda at Rolfe St. Now living with them was daughter-in-law Ann Fletcher, a news agent, & her children – Clara Anne, a dress maker, Louisa, a teacher, Albert, a teacher & Lizzie, a dress maker. Louisa Fletcher was to marry Joseph Samuel Jones Freeth (fh.22.214.171.124.2.4) in 1889.
Hannah (83), (Sarah) Miranda (50) & Ann (62) were all still living together at Rolfe St in 1891. Ann’s son Albert E was still with them & described as an officer of the Guardians of the Poor.
Hannah died on March 22nd, 1892, aged 84, at Rolfe St, Smethwick. Administration of her effects was granted at Lichfield on September 4th, 1892 to grandson Albert Edward Fletcher, school attendance officer. Her effects were £2.
In 1901 daughter Sarah Miranda was living on her own at 64 Windmill Lane, Smethwick & described as living on her own means. In 1911 she was lodging with the Hearn family at 94 Salisbury Rd, Smethwick & was now an old age pensioner.
