Hannah Stone [st.6]

Hannah Stone was the fourth child of Joseph Stones & Miranda Berber christened June 21st, 1807 at All Saints, West Bromwich.

Hannah married Joseph Fletcher on March 27th, 1826 at Tipton, Staffs. Joseph was born c1806 at Dudley, Worcs.

In 1841 Hannah & Joseph were living at Rolf St, Smethwick & Joseph was a ball turner. They had 3 children at home – Benjamin (10), Joseph (5) & Miranda (4). Living nearby in Rolf St was Hannah’s older sister Miranda now married to John Baker.

They were still at Rolfe St, Smethwick in 1851 & Joseph was now a sheet iron furnace man as was his son Benjamin & son Joseph was an assistant sheet iron shearer. Also at home were Miranda & Richard (3). With the family was Hannah’s sister Miranda Baker, a ladies nurse.

In 1861 Hannah & Joseph were again at Rolfe St & Joseph was now forge manager & son Joseph was a furnaceman. Daughter Miranda was still at home & still living with them was Hannah’s widowed sister Miranda Baker. Living next door was Hannah's son Benjamin, a furnaceman, with his wife Ann & their 4 children.

At the time of the 1871 census Hannah & Joseph were at 139 Rolfe St, Smethwick, & Joseph was still a forge manager & Hannah was shop keeper. Daughter Miranda was the only child at home & she was an assistant shop keeper. Living next door was daughter-in-law Ann Fletcher, now widowed, who was also a shop keeper, & her family.

Joseph died in Jan-March 1873, aged 69, at Smethwick.

In 1881 widow Hannah was living with her daughter Miranda at Rolfe St. Now living with them was daughter-in-law Ann Fletcher, a news agent, & her children – Clara Anne, a dress maker, Louisa, a teacher, Albert, a teacher & Lizzie, a dress maker. Louisa Fletcher was to marry Joseph Samuel Jones Freeth (fh.4.6.1.4.2.4) in 1889.

Hannah (83), Miranda (50) & Ann (62) were all still living together at Rolfe St in 1891. Ann’s son Albert E was still with them & described as an officer of the Guardians of the Poor.

Hannah died Jan-March 1892, aged 84, at Smethwick. Her daughter-in-law Ann died soon after her in Oct-December 1893.
