Maria Webster was the seventh known child of John Webster & Elizabeth Compton Hearne christened January 24th, 1813 at Burnham.
Maria married Thomas Henry Johnson on January 24th, 1838 at Burnham, Bucks. Thomas was christened January 7th 1816 at St Margaret’s, Uxbridge, Middlesex, son of Sarah & Thomas Johnson, a linen draper. He was known as "Gaiters" because he always wore brown leather leggings. An Essay in Uxbridge Library entitled "Peregrinations of a Kiddy"? described him as "A busy man, church warden for several years, and in other ways enterprising." (Ref Esther Byrt)
In 1841 Thomas & Maria were living at High St, Uxbridge where Thomas was a draper. They had 2 children – Thomas Webster (2) & Maria Elizabeth (10 months).
They were still living at the High St in 1851 & Thomas was a linen draper. The children at home were Annie Frances (8), Emily Jane (4) & John (2). Son Thomas was visiting his grandparents, Thomas & Sarah Johnson, at the time of the census who also lived at the High St, Uxbridge.
Maria & Thomas were still living at High St in 1861 & Thomas was a draper employing 1 man. At home were children Thomas, Maria & John. Daughter Emily was at school at Colham House, Hillingdon, Uxbridge.
Son Thomas Webster married Elizabeth Ann Wichelow in April-June 1870 at Brentford, Middlesex. Thomas Webster also worked as a draper & he & Elizabeth had a daughter Elizabeth Alice in 1874.
At the time of the 1871 census Maria & Thomas were living at ‘Fairfield’, Harefield Rd, Hillingdon, a house that he had built & Thomas continued to be a draper. Daughter Emily was still at home.
Maria died in December 28th, 1872, aged 59, her death being recorded at Uxbridge.

By 1881 Thomas, aged 65, had remarried Elizabeth Newman aged 42, born at Brighton, Sussex. Thomas was now retired & he & Elizabeth were living at Harefield Rd, Hillingdon.
Thomas died on May 23rd, 1885, aged 69, at Fairfield, Hillingdon & was buried on May 29th, 1885 at St Margaret’s, Uxbridge. His will was proved on July 3rd, 1885 by executors widow Elizabeth, George Glanville Newman of 2 Holles St, Cavendish Square, Middlesex, retired engineer & Francis Newman of 45 St Andrew’s, Middlesex, a clerk in the Truth Newspaper office. Thomas’ estate was £1,755.2s.11d.
Elizabeth died on June 17th, 1889 at Fairfield, Hillingdon. Her will was proved on July 23rd, 1889 by her brothers George Glanville Newman, gentleman & Francis Newman, gentleman, of Hillingdon Rd. Her estate was valued at £567.13s.3d & resworn in 1890 as £634.16s.1d.
Sadly son Thomas Webster was found in the Uxbridge District Workhouse in 1891 & was described as a draper’s assistant.
