Emily Ann Webster was the fourth child of Richard Webster & Mary Ann Cross christened December 23rd, 1849 at Hitcham, Bucks.
In 1851 & 1861 Emily was living with her parents & family at Hill Farm, Hitcham.
Emily married Charles Headington on April 30th, 1868 at the Parish Church, Hitcham. The Reading Mercury of May 2nd, 1868 carried a report on an accident which occurred just after the wedding ceremony. The wedding party was on its way to Ascot when one of the horses pulling a carriage containing 3 bridesmaids (including Miss Mary Webster) & Mr Norrington & Mr E Headington jnr, became unmanageable. The carriage was overturned & a number of the passengers received injuries.
Charles Headington was born July-September 1840, son of Eleanor & William Headington, a farmer of Paley St Farm, White Waltham. Emily’s brother Richard had married Emily Dinah Headington 3 years earlier!
In 1871 Charles & Emily were living at Remenham Lane, Remenham, Bucks where Charles was a farmer of 450 acres employing 8 men & 5 boys. They had a son Charles William aged 1. Living with them was Emily’s mother Mary. They had a general domestic servant & a nurse.
In 1881 Charles was farming at Remenham Place Farm, Remenham, a farm of 250 acres employing 9 men & 3 boys. They had 2 daughters – Emily Constance (7), Mildred (5) & a son Claude (3) at home. Son Charles was a pupil at Linden House School, Cowley Rd, Littlemore, Oxon at this time. Another daughter Mary, born 1872, was also boarding at ‘Summerbrook’ ladies school, Reading.
About 1888 the family moved from Remenham to Dorking, Surrey when Charles became the steward to Mr Fuller of the Rookery, Westcott.
After a 10 week illness Emily died aged 40 on May 6th, 1890, & was buried on May 12th, 1890 at Westcott, Dorking, Surrey.
By 1891 widower Charles was living at Westcott Hill Farm, Dorking, Surrey where he was a farm steward. Living with him were Charles, Mary (19), Emily, Mildred, Claude & Mabel (7).
Charles died on October 29th, 1891 at Westcott Hill Farm, Dorking, aged 51. Probate was granted on January 29th, 1892 to son Charles William, a corn dealer’s assistant. Charles’ effects were £1,286.9s.
In 1901 sons Charles & Claude & daughter Mildred were living at South Rd, Maidenhead. Charles was a brewers clerk & Claude was a bankers clerk. Daughter Emily had married Alfred James Edwards in July-September 1899 at Maidenhead & in 1901 she & Alfred were living at Maidenhead with their 9 month old son Norman J.
