Eliza Sarah Winder was the third child of John Winder & Eliza Mary Ager born April-June 1858 at Edmonton, Middlesex.
In 1861 Eliza & her parents & older brother William were living at
Webbs Cottages, Edmonton where her father was an omnibus conductor.
At the time of the 1871census Eliza was still at home which was a pub called
the Prince Regent at Hoxton New Town, Shoreditch, London where her father
was a licensed victualler. Brother William & Robert were at home &
visiting them was their grandmother Letitia Winder, described as ‘widow
of an omnibus proprieter’ aged 69.
In 1881 Eliza was living at Camden Rd with her widowed father & brothers. Eliza’s cousin George Frederick Buchanan, the son of Caroline Winder, was living with them.
In April-June 1881 Eliza married Samuel Edwards Nelson at Pancras. Samuel was the son of Sarah Edwards & Samuel Nelson, a tailor, born April-June 1860 at Brompton, London.
According to Annie Pentecost Eliza inherited her father’s grand piano on his death in 1887.
It appears that Eliza died in July-September 1889, as there is a death recorded for Eliza Sarah Nelson, aged 31, at Islington at this time. In the 1891 census Samuel E Nelson is recorded as a widower living with his parents Sarah & Samuel at Upper Park Rd, Hampstead. Samuel was a tailor.
Eliza & Samuel’s son Reggy was listed with his ‘aunt’ Letitia Livermore (nee Winder) at 14 Stratford Place, St Pancras at the time of the 1891 census.
The children of Eliza Sarah Winder & Samuel Edwards Nelson were:
