Henry Burns Winder was the child of William Winder & Jane Buckland born May 3rd, 1860 & christened May 27th, 1860 at Neath, Glamorgan.
At the time of the 1871 census Henry & his parents were living at Swansea. His father William was foreman of the Great Western Railway carriage factory.
The family were still living in Swansea at 10 Terrace Rd in 1881 & his father was described as manager of the Great Western Railway Carriage Vans. Henry (20) was now a railway clerk in the traffic department of GWR.
Henry married Sarah Jane Phillips on August 9th, 1888 at the Parish Church, Swansea. Witnesses at the wedding were Henry’s parents, William & Jane Winder & Fred Davies. Sarah was the daughter of Martha & Thomas P Phillips, a commercial traveller, born Jan-March 1862 at Roath, Cardiff.
By 1891 Henry & his wife Sarah were living at Cradock St, Cardiff & Henry was working as a railway clerk.
Henry, of 65 Craddock St, Canton, Cardiff, died on April 26th, 1899, aged 38. Administration of his will was granted to widow Sarah Jane on May 15th, 1899 & his effects were £342.16s.
In 1901 Sarah was described as a housekeeper & was living at 24 Machen Place, Cardiff with daughter Charlotte (8) & her brother Martin E Phillips (31), an engine fitter.
Sarah was still living at 24 Machen Place in 1911 & noted as head of the house. With her was daughter Charlotte & Sarah’s brother Martin, a fitter. It was noted on the census that Sarah had had 2 children, only one of whom was still living.
Sarah died on March 14th, 1943 at 24 Machen Place, Cardiff. Administration of her will was granted to Mary Caroline Charley, spinster, & her effects were £390.
